Chincoteague, Assateague, Kiptopeke, and the Eastern Shore of Virginia.3rd – 5th November 2023

Previous Trips

We explored the shoreline, the marsh and wooded areas in search of every bird that is passing through, wintering, as well as those present year-round. The exploration was at a leisurely pace.

The birds migrate through this area because of the weather and geography. Depending on what fronts are moving into the area, the birds “pile-up” waiting to cross the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay with favorable fronts. This can also be the southern destination for many who are used to cold, just not frozen tundra. It is a great waterfowl wintering location.
